Medical Marijuana FAQ

Medical Marijuana
Medical marijuana uses the marijuana plant or chemicals in it to treat diseases or conditions. It's basically the same product as recreational marijuana, but it's taken for medical purposes. The marijuana plant contains more than 100 different chemicals called cannabinoids. Each one has a different effect on the body. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the main chemicals used in medicine. THC also produces the "high" people feel when they smoke marijuana or eat foods containing it.

To date, the FDA has not approved a marketing application for cannabis for the treatment of any disease or condition. The agency has, however, approved one cannabis-derived drug product: Epidiolex (cannabidiol), and three synthetic cannabis-related drug products: Marinol (dronabinol), Syndros (dronabinol), and Cesamet (nabilone). These approved drug products are only available with a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. Importantly, the FDA has not approved any other cannabis, cannabis-derived, or cannabidiol (CBD) products currently available on the market.

Cannabidiol (CBD) & Hemp
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 140 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are the naturally occurring, biologically active components specific to the cannabis plant.
Part of the Cannabis family, Hemp is made up of over 140 different cannabinoids, as well as terpenes, flavonoids, fatty acids, and more.
The endocannabinoid system (or ECS) is how cannabinoids like CBD offer their benefits. It is our bodies own natural cannabis system! It provides homeostasis, or balance, in our body for health and wellness. It is quite possibly the most important physiological system in establishing and maintaining our health. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has stated that it “may have therapeutic potential in almost all conditions affecting humans”.
The most common forms of CBD products include oils, tinctures, cosmetics, topical creams, gummies, chocolate, powder and off-the-shelf beverages and inhalation.
CBD has been proven to be non-addictive, safe, and has many health implications. It has generated a lot of buzz for good reason.
